A colourful blossoming plankton bloom larger than Greece is seen stretching across the Barents Sea off the tip of northern Europe. Plankton are tiny marine plants capable of photosynthesis. Their chlorophyll pigments tint the colour of the water. Just like land plants, through photosynthesis they are part of the cycle of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of our planet.
