Uranus was discovered as recently as 1781 by William Herschel in England. It is a gas giant, similar in size to planet Neptune, but much smaller than Jupiter or Saturn. It shows very little atmospheric activity such as clouds. Its rotation axis is tilted, so that it lies almost in the plane of its orbit around the Sun, resulting in extreme seasons.
